Kill Team Joint Ops: Terror on Devlan
Orks and plague marines face The Red Terror
Beneath the wasteland of an isolated Imperial mining world, the tunnels churned with Tyranid hunger as entire settlements disappeared into the dark.
At the centre of the carnage stalked The Red Terror, a monstrous predator that erupted from below, killed with terrifying precision and vanished before its prey could react.
Facing such a threat alone promised only death, forcing an uneasy alliance between two enemies with little reason to stand together. A plague marine squad advanced through the choking depths in a haze of rot and corruption while an Ork mob crashed alongside them, eager for violence but wary of the horrors ahead.
There was no trust between them, only the shared understanding that somewhere beneath them The Red Terror was hunting. And if they failed to bring it down, they would join the countless dead already swallowed by the ravenous horde.
G’day! This weekend I participated in a three-player narrative campaign and it was awesome.
We kicked through the first three missions of the ‘Terror on Devlan’ dossier and we’re keen for more.
Mike (Orks) and I (plague marines) fought Bam’s assortment of termagants, rippers and the fearsome ravener lovingly called The Red Terror.
In addition to gaming we also flicked through the pages of the Nemesis Operatives supplement and can see potential for entertaining PvP boss fights.

Special thanks to Mike for the incredible terrain and Ork minis, Bam (Mini Myths) for the sick ‘nids and Guf Werribee for hosting the day.
Run!
The opening scenario was simple enough. Escape!
Termagants randomly spawned along table edges as the plague marines and Orks battled their way to safety (the opposite table edge).
It felt good melting a ‘gant with a supercharged plasma pistol shot (simply because I could). Elsewhere the heavy gunner hosed a group of ‘nids with a plague spewer.
That bomb squig, though, would prove to be uncharacteristically resilient and effective (surviving its own ordinance).
It turned out the greenskins and the Death Guard made for great partners as they successfully exfiltrated.

The hunted become the hunters
Uh oh! Three tunnels require demolition. Can our unlikely allies get the job done?
“I really liked the first time we put The Red Terror on the board – slight WTF moment.”
~Bam

Blowing up tunnels was seriously fun business, requiring clever teamwork and the ol’ dakka dakka.
Watching those cunning kommandos hug walls, drop down and wreak havoc was a delight, too.

Play of the match was Breaka Boy Krusha shoving The Red Terror with brute force out of the way to clear the mid-board. This allowed the plague marines to help finish the mission by scrambling for that last tunnel.
Also, when the Big Bad ate an operative it regained wounds which was extremely terrifying.
We enjoyed the objective focus and tried to work around the massive threat rather than tackle it head-on.
However, when The Red Terror erupts on the tabletop it can displace small terrain and other models so fighting it was inevitable.
Scan and dash
Once again Team Green were determined to leave the killzone alive but not without extracting evidence of the deadly monster.
This match should’ve really been a victory for the bio-mass-consuming monstrosities but we got really, really lucky.
Insane level of luck there – particularly with The Red Terror’s behaviour patterns and game-winning leadership from Mike.
We were bracing for a massacre in the centre but the ravener burrowed early in the scenario which gave the plague marines and Orks a massive advantage for mobility and survival.
“That termagant one-shotting Mike’s punchy boy was a fun moment.”
~Bam

Oh man, I felt so dirty. I needed to roll a 1 to complete a scan during a counter-action … and I actually did it!

This plague marine operative stepped away with a scanner marker for the win.
I highly recommend Joint Ops!
This is the most fun I’ve had playing Kill Team. The scenarios are tense and the storytelling on the tabletop is a guaranteed good time.
