#2 Ambush! | Week 1
Kalador Burning, a Warhammer 40,000 narrative crusade
This week the Gluttons attempted to ambush the Seekers of Ynnead, a scattered detachment of Aeldari on Kalador II, to test a new strain of walking pox.
Blurghh welkkomm to daaa jarngull, haak too!
~ the last words of a poxwalker
The mission
Forward observers detected signs of xenos on the outskirts of the Gluttons’ derelict vessel Kupala’s Keep. By order of the Arch-Contaminator, a patrol led by Tallyman Lazarus was dispatched with haste to not only neutralise the threat but also put into service a new strain of walking pox recently developed planetside.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the Death Guard, the Aeldari were rallying their displaced forces in search of their beloved emissary, Yvraine. The only clue they had to work from were three distinct signal traces in the zone …

The Seekers win the battle
By the top of turn three the Death Guard were tabled by the mighty Aeldari forces. It was a fun custom scenario (devised by Adam) and it has helped us establish our introduction to this narrative crusade. Fun times!
++ TALLYMAN LAZARUS ON VOX ++
Thick plumes of smoke reached out like tendrils from the smouldering ruin of Laz’s Sepulchre. Noxious gases infused the broken armour of the fallen plague marines. One by one, they slowly stood and chuckled. The sound was guttural, wet and constrained by mucus-fluid in the mouth, throat and chest.
Tallyman Lazarus leaned on Plague Champion Zed’s shoulder pauldron and took stock of his surroundings.
How long had they been down? Tallyman Lazarus could only speculate but judging by the smog the Seekers had long departed, leaving them for dead.
Twenty-one bolter rounds expended, a blessed number my brothers. Twenty walkers of the pox eliminated – 10 of the refined Gluto ‘gift’ and 10 of the Shambler strain. We six standing – the folly of our ignorant enemy for we endure where lesser creatures succumb to their mortal wounds. Two krak and two frag missiles squandered. One daemon engine, the great Belcher, and our mode of transport in dire need of repair. Curious though, what else lurks on Kalador? Can you not smell the taint? There is an odour unlike anything we have experienced before. Yes, news of our failure will displease Lord Voivode, but there is much to be gained from what we have witnessed this day. Our testimony may yet bear fruit. On me, we have much to report …
